Damiana has latin name Turnera diffusa and synonims Damiana aphrodisiaca, Turnera aphrodisiaca L.F. Ward, and Turnera microphyllia Desc. The trades name of Damiana is Wild Countryside Damiana leaves. Part used is leaves and stem. The leaves of damiana were originally used as medicine by the indigenous culture of Central America particularly Mexico and Texas.

Damiana are used as aphrodisiac since ancient times, particularly by the native peoples of Mexico. The others uses Damiana to treatment asthma, bronchitis, neurosis, prophylaxis and  various sexual disorders. Furthermore It is stated to possess antidepressant, thymoleptic, mild purgative and stomachic. 

Damiana contains compounds : Volatile oil (0,5-0,9 %): chief components 1,8-cineole, alpha and beta pinene, p-cymene as well as thymol, alpha-copene, gamma cadinene, calamene; Tannins (4%); Resins (7%); Hydroquinone glycosides : arbutin (0,2-0,7%);  Cyanogenic glycosides: tetraphylline B (barterin)      
            
No health hazards or side effects are known in conjuction with proper administration of designated therapeutic dosages.

A tea of Damiana can prepared using 1 gram of dried leaves in to 250 ml (1 cup) boiling water, allow steep 10-15 minutes. Drink 3 cups per day. To use in tincture form take 2-3 ml 3 times per day.
